Drops of happiness

February showers bring March flowers.

I have not seen anyone loving the rain more, anywhere in the world, than the way they love it in UAE.

snapseed

I mean, let’s be honest, I am from Europe and I know very well how Europeans behave when it starts raining, we get all moody and comfy in our beds and we start complaining about how bad the weather is and then we go to sleep, cause nothing beats the sleep with the music of the rain on.

snapseed

Well, the opposite happens in Dubai and you must experience this! Rain comes with happiness! When the first drops are seen we all jump out of beds and we go out. Go out to feel the touch of the warm rain drops on our bodies, to walk in the rain, to drive in the rain, to dance in the rain, anything, but we don’t stay indoors! We simply don’t! For instance, we’d rather go and take some cool pictures! 🙂

snapseed

Staying fashionable regardless the weather?!

We all know how hard that is, no one feels like making any effort to dress up on a wet weather, but it shouldn’t be that difficult!

snapseed

First, make sure you stay warm at all times and you’ve got the right boots on! How else would you be able to jump around and splash water all over?

No umbrella? Nothing to worry about!

snapseed

Put on a hat, I guarantee it will protect you from the rain as much as it does it from the sun!

There you go! All set, ready to Click, Click, Click, ohhh wait,  Taxiii!!!

snapseed

Now tell me…

When was the last time you fell in love with the rainy weather? Come on, if not the drops of the rain, then what brings out the romantic side in you?

snapseed

Grab his hand and swim in laughter,

Dance together and he’ll be your lover.

Romania, you rock my world!

Romania, you have the most beautiful face!

img_7140

I know Romanians celebrate Dragobete on the 24th, I know, we are very traditional.

However, Valentine’s took over the world and it looks like people are more loving and caring on the 14th of February and they don’t know how to express their love better on this particular day. I’m sure you already know what I would like to suggest you my dear love birds,  make this day happen every day for the rest of your life, be open to love and do your best to show the love you have for your special one every single moment.

Moving on, since that’s not the point here, I want to tell the whole world that Romanians are the most loving people on Earth. Why? Because over 500.000 people gathered together around Romania these days to express their love for the country! Isn’t that magnificient?

image4

They lighten up Romania like never before!

We are all awake and alive and we love this country with our hearts, minds and frozen bodies walking and singing the national anthem on the streets of Bucharest and not only, so that you can all hear that we do have a VOICE.

image1-2

I live abroad for few years now,but if I could make a wish, it would be to take the first flight home and go there and do what is right to do, what our parents did in ’89 for us and what is right for us to do for our future.

I won’t go deeper into the topic, I don’t want to get involved into politics right now, I let the experts do their job, but living far from my country has never made me happier than now, seeing what a beautiful nation we are!

Romania, we are one! Together we will win!

What is your obsession?

” I wanted to examine the single dot that was my own life. One polka dot: a single particle between billion.”

snapseed

I’m thinking for a while now, if I actually have any obsession and most probably not. I don’t even know if that is a good or a bad thing. I believe it depends on the type of obsession or the intensity of it.

snapseed

It might be good if you think about the fact you are not addicted to anyone and anything. But when you turn your dream and your passion into an obsession, I believe you are 100% focused on success. It will bring the success! You will make it! Just because everything revolves around your obsession!

snapseed

That’s what Yayoi Kusama (87 years old!) Japanese artist, did!
Her Dots obsession turned out to be a success and took her work all over the world!

This is when the love is transformed into dots! Nothing makes more sense to her, but dots. She sees dots everywhere. There is no life around without the polka dots.

snapseed

I know, many of you will find it silly, you will say the same as I did, yeah, right, everyone can do it, just some dots hanging from the wall or laying on the ground and here is the art, there you are, a successful artist. But she start working on her project back in the 1990s. It takes perseverance, it takes motivation, it takes strong belief in what you are doing, she was basically breathing dots for 26 years now and today everyone knows about her.

snapseed

I have seen her work currently in Sharjah Art foundation, it might be looking simplistic but it brings happiness! So again, she knew exactly what her purpose was.

snapseed

Here are some of our fun pictures taken on the day, around Kusama’s dots. She makes you breath those dots, I’m telling you!

img_5710

Based on her words I dare to say that we must be living in a colorful polka world.

Therefore I want you all to examine your polka dot. Examine your own life.

Let today be the magical beginning of an enchanted life.

2016 My year to shine

Last day of 2016 is over. I don’t know about you, but I still can’t believe this year is gone. Is the time passing differently lately? Or is it us who just can’t get enough and we are never satisfied, we don’t know how to value every second in the right way.

Regardless the reason that time seems to pass at different speeds I just want to tell you all that 2016 was an absolutely unforgettable year and YES, it was my year to shine! This is what I wrote exactly a year ago on a piece of paper… 2016 will be my year to shine!

Many things have happened, had million reasons to smile, to be grateful for, to be thankful for, to be happy for!

I have done my retrospective for this year, I know all the goals  I have accomplished, some of them are in progress and some might have been delayed, not because I have not worked for them, but sometimes we are very demanding with ourselves, which could be in the same good and less good, cause we might not reach all our targets, but, please, please, focus on the good! Always!

Life is too hard not to make it fun!

Rewarding yourself is an important part of success! It is absolutely essential that you make self reward an integral part of your routine. Don’t leave it like that. Talk to yourself! Trust yourself and believe you can do it! You can do it all! Rewarding yourself for victories, big and small, will make a world of difference!

What are your personal plans/goals for 2017?

Have you written your resolutions for the New Year? If not, do it today, don’t postpone it, oh, this could be one, don’t postpone anymore!:)  Take an hour, make yourself a cup of coffee or dare for some bubbles since the New Year is right at your door and visualize your year; once you put everything down on a notebook, you’ll feel better about yourself. If you still don’t trust me, give it a try and you’ll see that this will be the first step in knowing where to start from.

Your goals must be very clear and if you want my advice, this is how I do it all the time , I split my goals and plans across the various categories: self-development, financial, spiritual, professional, health, etc.

This way, by the end of the year you’ll know exactly your progress and I’m sure that will put another big smile on your face.

Be bold in your goal setting!

Don’t worry if you have never done it before! Don’t let anything and anyone hold you back, we are all capable of more than we think.

Find a role model. This will help a lot, surround yourself with succesful people, people who are good at what you want to achieve. Do what they did, do it your way. Look for inspiration! I love doing that!

2017 will be my year to shine!

Write this down and remember every day how lucky and loved you are, you special soul.

Have a wonderful celebration, wishing you a successful year, value yourself and don’t forget to shine!

Take your dreams seriously! If not YOU, then who? If not NOW, then when?

Love,

Andra

National Achievers Congress Dubai

“Your Network is your NetWorth.”

I have always had a high interest in reading self-development books or attending events like National Achievers Congress, brought for the first time in UAE, only because I find inspiration in people’s stories, in their life experiences, their success or the failures they have been through in time.

image1-2

Robert Kiyosaki is the one who captured my attention and made me attend this event. For those who don’t know about him, I would recommend you to read “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”, the New York Times bestseller,  sold in over 26 million copies, that teaches you all about the financial independence and building wealth through investments.

 Saving is for losers.

Let me just start all over again. I find out about this event that I really want to attend and I’m already planning to book my ticket with my good friend, Xenia. All set and the tickets bought. Meanwhile, I’m doing my research about the guests, the event itself and while browsing on Facebook and Instagram, I go on Ali’s Al Saloom page and I see this contest about sharing the ad and having a chance to win 2 GOLD tickets worth 1600$!!! I don’t think much, I said let me just share it, I mean we all have a chance in this life, even though I don’t really ever participate in any contests like this one,  thinking that there are too many people trying their luck so my chance is kind of small, I’d rather let it for the others.

How many of you are thinking the same?

Processed with VSCO with f2 preset          Andreea Zoia and Andra Contiu

This time though, I’m sharing Ali’s post all over social media, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and in my mind I’m already wondering what will I do with the tickets that I have just bought if this turns to be my luck. I knew it!
Few days later I get an email: Dear Andrada Contiu,  Congratulations! You have won 2 Gold Tickets…

image1

Wow! I’m in Munich, my eyes half-open, this lady calls me and I’m wondering who could be, shall I pick up the phone? I did. “Andrada, did you get my email? I’m calling from the Najahi.” Uhm, which email was she talking about? Well, I don’t really check my email, but from now I’ll definitely do it more often. I was one of the 5 winners in UAE! Isn’t this great?
Everyone has a chance you only have to try, try, try!

image5-1

Two full days of inspiration, education and motivation.

Feel to plan, plan to feel. Go out there and look for opportunities! Think big and big things will happen!
I can not put together  all the precious information I got in those two days, but I can say that it was totally an event worth attending.

First of all, I was happy to see Khalid Al Ameri as a host, since I couldn’t see him last year at the Emirates Literature Festival. He is such an inspiration for all the men around and not only. You must read his posts when he speaks about his wife and his family. This kind of stories you don’t see them around every corner anymore, so you appreciate it more and I believe there is still a tiny hope within all of us that the power of love could take over anytime soon.

image2-1

Robert Kiyosaki is a person I have always wanted to meet, since I read his book some years ago. I truly believe that we must work for our future, we must take opportunities, we must build dreams and fly higher than we’ve ever been. Financial independence is important and Robert was sharing with us how can we get there before the world will be replaced by robots. Yes, technology is taking over and soon humans will have no major role anymore in serving the community.

There were many other speakers that captivated my attention such as Andrew Matthews as a bestselling author about happiness, success and prosperity; Ali Al Saloom, one of the fastest rising media stars in the Gulf, totally loved him;  Lady Michelle Mone as a leading entrepreneurs inspiring women all over the world; Peng Joon who was telling us all about the online wealth creation and how to make big money by selling digital products online; Kevin Green, UK’s “Secret millionaire”, Business Coach and Property Investor encouraging people to invest in properties and teaching us how to make money out of it.

Overall, it was a fantastic event, I took lots of notes and I got a boost of energy and motivation for my personal and professional life, so it will hopefully be a SELF development and not a SHELF development, putting all my notes on the shelf. 🙂

image1-1

I would like to end here not before asking you to sit with yourself for a bit and reflect about where do you see yourself in 5 years from now, how about in 10 years? What will you do to make it happen? Take one hour per day just for yourself and do anything that makes you happy, because it’s us who choose happiness and don’t forget that all the joy in life comes from creation, STAND OUT, be OUTSTANDING! Inspire, impact, influence, set achievements, do your things, the results will speak and people will follow!

Upgrade yourself, dear friend.

Top 10 of ANA NOVIC

“I get my inspiration as a business woman and a dreamer from powerful women such as Coco Chanel or the amazing madame Grès.”

image2-2

I have received a lot of compliments wearing her dresses, I was thrilled and she deserves all the rights for the wonderful work she does, that makes us all feel like super women! Therefore, I am beyond excited to share with you a super TOP 10 interview of Ana Novic, a unique Romanian designer, a powerful woman, a lovable wife and an extraordinary mother of Ingrid!
I’m sure you all want to know more about the one who is hiding behind these beautiful dresses I proudly wear and guess what? I managed to take some cool shots for you while visiting her!

fullsizerender-5

1. Hello, Ana! Just to get things clear from the very beginning, why Ana Novic and not Anca Novic? Still confused about the name.. haha.

Hey! First of all, thank you for having me on your blog. It’s a pleasure. Well, Ana Novic because my real name is Ana. Anca is just a name that my family made up and that’s why my friends still call me Anca. That is also the reason you are confused. 🙂

2. No more confusions. ☺️ You make yourself remarkable wherever you go. How would you describe your style?

My style is… soulful, powerful, original, classic, authentic, sophisticated. Even if we think about my style as a woman or my style as a fashion designer, those words describe me the best in both ways.

fullsizerender-4

3. Can you tell us something about the outfit you’re wearing today?

Sure! I’m wearing a fashionable velvet robe and a lace overall, both made by me. They’re very comfortable, easy to wear, classical but sophisticated at the same time, as I was saying earlier.

fullsizerender-1

4. What/Who inspires you on a daily basis?

I get my inspiration as a business woman and a dreamer from powerful women such as Coco Chanel or the amazing madame Gres. The things we have in common is the power to fight and the desire to make a difference in the world with our talent. When I create, I get my inspiration from everything, from simple states of mind, to different situations, people around me or a vacation with my husband and daughter. Everything around us can be inspiring.
5. That’s how the art pieces are born. We know about your talent and passion, about the beautiful clothes you design, unique I would say.

You know, you are right and my creations are indeed unique because that’s what I’m trying to do every time I get something out of my workshop! I’m trying to get better everyday and I’m trying to make recognizable clothes. And it’s working. Lately, lots of my clients told me they didn’t have to tell the people around that they are wearing Ana Novic because their friends have already recognized “the style”.  And I am very happy and grateful for that!

image2

6. When did the Ana Novic project start and how did it actually start?

I started when I was very, very young, playing with my dolls and making them clothes. 🙂 As a designer, I started taking myself seriously back in 2010, but my name was DaCapo. It was a thing from my childhood, I have always wanted to be named this way. After working for a few years under this name, I decided that I should make my own name known and I started from the scratch as Ana Novic. I was starting a new life and I wanted everything to be this way. I suffered a rebranding and, despite the fact it was like going from zero all over again, it paid it off. I’m proud I did this movement.
In april 2015 I had my debut as Ana Novic, launching my first official collection, “1”. It contained atypical night gowns with original cuts, sexy curves and the original element: manually paintings, a unique thing not only in my country or in Europe, but worldwide. It started from an idea I had and it paid it off. The collection was a success, and that made me and Veronica very happy. Veronica is my friend for more than 25 years, she is a painter and she did all the paintings. The Romanian press called our gowns “living paintings”, we did TV Shows, all the people were talking about them, even the international press. Looking back, I now realize it was a really big thing. I still get requests for manually painted dresses from my clients.

image1-3
7. I have a curiosity ! Does a designer wear mostly her creations or she also  wears other brands?

Personally, when I go to events I only wear my creations. What’s the point of being a fashion designer and making women clothing if I’m not the best endorser for them? 🙂 90% of the time I’m wearing Ana Novic, and when I’m not, I have my clients or the celebrities I’m working with and I’m wearing their designs on different occasions. When I simply go out and everything is more casual, I tend to combine vintage clothing with my own stuff.

fullsizerender

8. Tell us something about what gives you power, energy or motivates you every day.

The things that motivate me everyday are the power and the desire to become better, the certainty that I have the talent to make a difference, the feedback I get from all my clients, from the projects I work on and, of course, my friends and family. My amazing daughter and my husband, journalist and blogger DaddyCool.ro, who is my biggest supporter. He believes in me very much and he is always telling me I can do and achieve everything I want. And I also truly believe in him because he is such a great person and he has achieved amazing things so far!

fullsizerender-3

9. What are you currently working at? We know you are preparing to launch a new collection soon… Tell us more about it, of course, as much as you can share with us at the moment. We still like surprises!

In this very moment I am working on a special project that involves a celebrity. It’s a very cool one for OK Magazine Romania and I have designed a unique and original dress, never made before, which will make a huge impact, I am sure of that. The celebrity I am working with is very proud of me because I pushed my limits… again.

Besides that, I am working on my new collection, yes. It’s going to be an amazing event, an unusual one, of course, and I will tell you more about it next time, when I’ll also show you pics from the event and the full lookbook. Can’t wait!

10. Any piece of advice that you would like to give to the fashion lovers?

I would like to tell, not only to the fashion lovers, but to everyone to pursue their dreams and to never ever give up! Work hard and believe in yourselves and sooner or later you will get where you want to be and you will be proud that you didn’t give up, even if sometimes it was very hard. You are stronger than you think!

image3

Thank you very much, Ana! You are a proof that impossible is nothing and here is the confirmation!

Style vs. Brands

Don’t let labels define you.

I have one simple question for you: do you like what you see?

Now, have  a look at this!

Do you still like it? Does it look differently to you, perhaps even better?

The idea behind this example is simple! Middle East is the place where people do care if you wear a label, an expensive brand, the latest collection or a limited edition product.
You might be addressed many times: “Oh, I love it! Which brand is it?”
I go like 😕 Does it necessary need to be branded? Am I not cool enough to speak to you if I don’t wear a designer label?
Don’t get me wrong please, we do love designers and we do buy pieces if we like, if we can afford and if it’s worth buying them. We would even recommend you to invest in bags, shoes, pieces that are good quality and will help you getting the look you have always dreamed of!

image3

Andra Contiu, dress by Ana Novic, hand-painted by Vera Holostencu

But from here to being left on the side in a society because you can’t afford buying some cool pieces it’s a big gap. We’ll never buy anything just because we have to wear brands to be accepted by the society.
Unfortunately, this is the ugly truth that surrenders us.

So what are we trying to do, to show or to prove?

This:

fullsizerender-4image2-1image4image3image3-1image1-1

Underneath your clothes.

We are trying to show, my dears, that style will never equal labels and that style doesn’t need a lot of money, but just imagination, creativity, desire, passion, love and courage. You need to be brave to go out there and prove them wrong!
Be yourself, be confident in who you are as a person, your values and show them you have the style and the class that money will never buy! Don’t be left on the side because you don’t have in your wardrobe the last collection of my favourite Chanel or Dolce & Gabbana. Yes, I love them, I do, but I will never use brands as an etiquette to define someone. We are more than that!
You are more than that!

We managed to make it to Vogue Arabia, Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, Emirates WomanAhlan!, fashion and style pages and so on. And all of that, only because we have attended this event by being who we are, wearing what we like and using all the resources we have had in order to make some unique pieces that will capture people’s attention. As you have already seen, we used accessible items, that we had in our wardrobe before and we did our best to customize every single item with minimum budget. Affordable, uhm?

There are lots of tricks to be used when you want to live in style, but about this we’ll talk in another post.
The most important advice is to be happy, to be happy with yourself and don’t be shy to express your personality through clothes. We love to hunt the stylish people, so watch out…:)

Fashion Forward Dubai

Fashion can move you forward

Time flies, we are all sure of that by now, therefore, we want to go back in time for a bit and remember together these three awesome days we had!
Fashion Forward is one of the biggest fashion event in the Middle East held bi-annually in April and October at Dubai Design District, which includes: Runway shows and presentations by the best couture, ready-to-wear and accessories designers in the Middle East. There are some very interesting talks and  inspiring seminars led by experts and fashion academia, which we totally love to attend.
This being said, I know you guys want to see pictures and emotions more than talks, so I won’t make the text too long this time, because fashion doesn’t need words to be expressed. But I would just like to add that it was the best Fashion Forward edition I have attended in 4 years in Dubai and still living the feeling of those days! 🙂

Day 1

The first day in a fashion show I think it’s spectacular, because everyone attending the event is trying to look the best! I have seen the best outfits in this day, people I have met were totally amazing, inspiring, approachable, friendly and the list could continue. This day gives you a burst of energy to keep your creativity up for the days that follow.

I simply love to see how people express their personality through clothes, style, fashion!
It’s the time of the year when you can go crazy and wear anything you wouldn’t wear on a daily basis!

As you might have already noticed, I focused more on sharing with you few shots of people like you, like me, randomly, but people who have captured my attention, actually not only mine, let’s be fair!
Second day it’s been a great success, considering the amount of compliments regarding my outfit, which was styled and customized by Rashwan with the help of the talented Ana Novic. Pictures, pictures, pictures!!!

Last day of Fashion Forward was still full of surprises. People want to stay memorable and  we have seen the ladies and the gentlemen having some major style credentials throughout the event! I hope you have enjoyed the article and I think, by now,  you should have a picture of how Middle Eastern people understand fashion. We are not in NY, Milan or Paris, but we have definitely brought all of them here!
This event was an opportunity for all the talented people around to express themselves, to make new friends, to capture beautiful moments and to perhaps, open new doors for some of us!

Wishing you all a stylish weekend ahead and stay tuned for more news related to the event! 🙂

“You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.”

Hey there,

We have started this personal blog, a project in which we strongly believe because we give our best, we add the most important ingredients, passion, love and dedication. This will make everything possible. It’s a challenge for ourselves, but we love challenges. This is what will move us, this is what we’ll make a difference in our lives and this is how we’ll, hopefully, inspire the others to start working on their dreams. Zig Zagler, said something that made me write this today, “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great“. So true! What a piece of advice!

We just want to say that we are not great today, but we have started. We are one step forward. We’ll do so many mistakes, we’ll be criticized by people and we’ll still continue to work on what we love, in order to make it better. We learn from all the mistakes we do, we accept the critics, we want feedback and we would love to have your support, suggestions or ideas. We’ll add yours to ours and we’ll offer you the best. It takes time, but we have the key, the patience.

We both do different things for living, we have a job, we don’t sit at home to write stories or simply take pictures and try to fill our time in a way or another. Rashwan is working in fashion and my job is to travel the world. I know, I have said it in a very nice way, but we do need to look at the bright side in life, don’t we? 🙂
Different jobs, but the same passion, same hobbies, same way of spending the free time, therefore we’ll have our space, Style Hunter Around The World, a space that we want to share with you. Stories about fashion events, about my travels, pictures of stylish people we like, thoughts of mine written down for you or creative ideas of restyling your clothes given to you by Rashwan.

Make your dreams become a reality, challenge yourself, it will take you out of your comfort zone, but believe me, it’s all worth it. And in the meantime, prepare yourself a cup of tea and get ready to start the journey around the world together.

Say yes to life,
Andra & Rashwan

Alserkal lates

   Hello hello,

We have decided to share a little bit of our “secret” place, where we love to hide and relax, work and get inspired or just be ourselves without having judging eyes on us.
This is how Alserkal works. It’s a different place in Dubai, a place you might not find at every corner, just because you don’t see warehouses transformed in restaurants, art galleries, days and nights filled with music, design, art, fashion, organic food and more.

The region’s foremost arts hub is situated in Dubai’s industrial quarter, Al Quoz. It’s the place where you feel like home and I believe that was also their target, when they came up with this brilliant idea of bringing people together to share their ideas and learn from each other, the place where creativity comes to life and where your horizons are getting expanded.

We won’t talk more about how much we love it, but we’ll let you go and check it yourself!

Our unique Zahra hiding behind her outfit.

Alserkal Lates is the event that has captured our attention and we happily went to have a look on what’s happening there. Few hours spent on going from gallery to gallery, admiring art work , listening to live music, meeting friends and in the same time working. And by work we mean, capturing the style of some wonderful people that we’ve came across.

       @Cartel.

We are so happy when we see that people are trying to look good, they are choosing their outfits with love, they feel inspired and they build stories with their outfits.
Enough talking, we are sure you all want to see some simple, chic, inspiring outfits.  Ready?

  1. Our stylish Parvane Barrete, founder of “State of Style” blog. As you might notice, style is very often used in Parvane’s life. As she is stating, she sees fashion as a way of living. Therefore this simplistic outfit is not as simple as we might think, since it got us like, “Wait a second, my grandpa had the same jacket years ago, how brave of her.” YES, dare for more, dare to be different, dare to inspire and look for inspiration everywhere.
We liked her outfit in this evening, simply because it was different. I mean, would you really expect a 17 years old girl to wear something like this? Uhm, probably not. Well done, our dearest!

2. Meet Kimberley Denise, who spoke to us about her outfit choice for Alserkal lates. She loves to mix and match the vintage items with the branded ones. Her blouse belonged to her mother, but not anymore obviously, since the trends are back. Haha!  Just look at those sleeves! I’m sure you have all seen the latest posts by all the big designers on the market. This is how we add value to the items, it’s not an old one, but a vintage one, so wear it proudly. Loving the denim jumpsuit, loving the denim generally, but this combination is really cool. Bravo, Kimberley and good luck on your new project!

3. We had the chance to meet Chahine, walking around Bernar Venet art pieces and we had to take a quick picture of him. Why? Because we always loved accessories and we do think that a hat is the difference in being dressed and being dressed up. We trust Chahine’s choice for this evening, his experience in fashion says it all. He considers it’s important to mix the moderate with the craziness, he doesn’t need long to choose what he will wear and his favorite pieces in the wardrobe are always the shoes. No matter how much he knows about this field, he is still frequently checking fashion magazines, street style pages or different fashion shows. Amazing! We love when people don’t stop investing in themselves. The most successful people never stop learning. Good luck, Chahine!
