A ladylike to wear your boyfriend oversized blazer

Look cool, not sloppy.

By now you should be used to the latest trends, that tell you oversized is cool!
The bigger the better. With the risk you might look homeless sometimes, go for it!

170707_415

It’s time to wear anything that is two size bigger, so don’t hesitate to borrow your boyfriend shirts, blazers, jeans, but hey, not the shoes! We don’t want some circus going on, pretty ladies! Haha!
My favorite part is that everything is so comfortable plus you can easily hide all the deserts you had lately. 😌

170707_412

Let me tell you the story, I’m flying to NY, the photo shoot has been already planned for a while, so I’m looking forward to meet my dear Sinziana, who is already having a career as a photographer in the lovely New York, New York.

170707_413

Overpack- it’s why suitcases have wheels now.

Time to pack! Oh, only one suitcase, only 24 hours, that’s already a difficult start!
Late in the evening, all clothes out, trying to mix and match and play games with my clothes! Let me add some of my boyfriend’s, I’m quickly thinking.
Anyway, Dubai is way too hot at the moment to wear blazer, he won’t notice.
Done! His jacket straight away in my suitcase!
By the way, we kind of have the same size, we can borrow each other clothes and this is not the first time, actually he was wearing mine too, shhhh, our secret!

170707_414

170707_411

The masculine meets feminine

What do you do with an oversized blazer though? I don’t want to wear anything under, but I can’t walk in a bra around Manhattan either. Let me add that vintage belt I bought in a second-hand! Oh, did I mention how much I love these shops? Cheap&chic, that’s the etiquette!

170707_407

I want a feminine look though. I’ll take some stilettos! Hum, dead man walking around NY in high heels, that’s definitely something that you need to see, after such a long flight and no sleep! But, hey, we can do anything we want, can’t we? Yes, who cares, Starbucks is my favorite addiction, it always keeps me going, so why would I give up now? Caffeine won’t give up on me without getting this done!

170707_409

170707_410

Oh, let’s go back to fashion! Still one item missing.
Mmm, this floral skirt was trying to get my attention, since it’s been a while I didn’t wear it. Ok, I’ll take you to NY dear, don’t cry!

170707_408

Voila, my look is complete! Time to explore New York. 🙂

Drops of happiness

February showers bring March flowers.

I have not seen anyone loving the rain more, anywhere in the world, than the way they love it in UAE.

snapseed

I mean, let’s be honest, I am from Europe and I know very well how Europeans behave when it starts raining, we get all moody and comfy in our beds and we start complaining about how bad the weather is and then we go to sleep, cause nothing beats the sleep with the music of the rain on.

snapseed

Well, the opposite happens in Dubai and you must experience this! Rain comes with happiness! When the first drops are seen we all jump out of beds and we go out. Go out to feel the touch of the warm rain drops on our bodies, to walk in the rain, to drive in the rain, to dance in the rain, anything, but we don’t stay indoors! We simply don’t! For instance, we’d rather go and take some cool pictures! 🙂

snapseed

Staying fashionable regardless the weather?!

We all know how hard that is, no one feels like making any effort to dress up on a wet weather, but it shouldn’t be that difficult!

snapseed

First, make sure you stay warm at all times and you’ve got the right boots on! How else would you be able to jump around and splash water all over?

No umbrella? Nothing to worry about!

snapseed

Put on a hat, I guarantee it will protect you from the rain as much as it does it from the sun!

There you go! All set, ready to Click, Click, Click, ohhh wait,  Taxiii!!!

snapseed

Now tell me…

When was the last time you fell in love with the rainy weather? Come on, if not the drops of the rain, then what brings out the romantic side in you?

snapseed

Grab his hand and swim in laughter,

Dance together and he’ll be your lover.

Love,

Andra

What is your obsession?

” I wanted to examine the single dot that was my own life. One polka dot: a single particle between billion.”

snapseed

I’m thinking for a while now, if I actually have any obsession and most probably not. I don’t even know if that is a good or a bad thing. I believe it depends on the type of obsession or the intensity of it.

snapseed

It might be good if you think about the fact you are not addicted to anyone and anything. But when you turn your dream and your passion into an obsession, I believe you are 100% focused on success. It will bring the success! You will make it! Just because everything revolves around your obsession!

snapseed

That’s what Yayoi Kusama (87 years old!) Japanese artist, did!
Her Dots obsession turned out to be a success and took her work all over the world!

This is when the love is transformed into dots! Nothing makes more sense to her, but dots. She sees dots everywhere. There is no life around without the polka dots.

snapseed

I know, many of you will find it silly, you will say the same as I did, yeah, right, everyone can do it, just some dots hanging from the wall or laying on the ground and here is the art, there you are, a successful artist. But she start working on her project back in the 1990s. It takes perseverance, it takes motivation, it takes strong belief in what you are doing, she was basically breathing dots for 26 years now and today everyone knows about her.

snapseed

I have seen her work currently in Sharjah Art foundation, it might be looking simplistic but it brings happiness! So again, she knew exactly what her purpose was.

snapseed

Here are some of our fun pictures taken on the day, around Kusama’s dots. She makes you breath those dots, I’m telling you!

Based on her words I dare to say that we must be living in a colorful polka world.

Therefore I want you all to examine your polka dot. Examine your own life.

Let today be the magical beginning of an enchanted life.

Top 10 of ANA NOVIC

“I get my inspiration as a business woman and a dreamer from powerful women such as Coco Chanel or the amazing madame Grès.”

image2-2

I have received a lot of compliments wearing her dresses, I was thrilled and she deserves all the rights for the wonderful work she does, that makes us all feel like super women! Therefore, I am beyond excited to share with you a super TOP 10 interview of Ana Novic, a unique Romanian designer, a powerful woman, a lovable wife and an extraordinary mother of Ingrid!
I’m sure you all want to know more about the one who is hiding behind these beautiful dresses I proudly wear and guess what? I managed to take some cool shots for you while visiting her!

fullsizerender-5

1. Hello, Ana! Just to get things clear from the very beginning, why Ana Novic and not Anca Novic? Still confused about the name.. haha.

Hey! First of all, thank you for having me on your blog. It’s a pleasure. Well, Ana Novic because my real name is Ana. Anca is just a name that my family made up and that’s why my friends still call me Anca. That is also the reason you are confused. 🙂

2. No more confusions. ☺️ You make yourself remarkable wherever you go. How would you describe your style?

My style is… soulful, powerful, original, classic, authentic, sophisticated. Even if we think about my style as a woman or my style as a fashion designer, those words describe me the best in both ways.

fullsizerender-4

3. Can you tell us something about the outfit you’re wearing today?

Sure! I’m wearing a fashionable velvet robe and a lace overall, both made by me. They’re very comfortable, easy to wear, classical but sophisticated at the same time, as I was saying earlier.

fullsizerender-1

4. What/Who inspires you on a daily basis?

I get my inspiration as a business woman and a dreamer from powerful women such as Coco Chanel or the amazing madame Gres. The things we have in common is the power to fight and the desire to make a difference in the world with our talent. When I create, I get my inspiration from everything, from simple states of mind, to different situations, people around me or a vacation with my husband and daughter. Everything around us can be inspiring.
5. That’s how the art pieces are born. We know about your talent and passion, about the beautiful clothes you design, unique I would say.

You know, you are right and my creations are indeed unique because that’s what I’m trying to do every time I get something out of my workshop! I’m trying to get better everyday and I’m trying to make recognizable clothes. And it’s working. Lately, lots of my clients told me they didn’t have to tell the people around that they are wearing Ana Novic because their friends have already recognized “the style”.  And I am very happy and grateful for that!

image2

6. When did the Ana Novic project start and how did it actually start?

I started when I was very, very young, playing with my dolls and making them clothes. 🙂 As a designer, I started taking myself seriously back in 2010, but my name was DaCapo. It was a thing from my childhood, I have always wanted to be named this way. After working for a few years under this name, I decided that I should make my own name known and I started from the scratch as Ana Novic. I was starting a new life and I wanted everything to be this way. I suffered a rebranding and, despite the fact it was like going from zero all over again, it paid it off. I’m proud I did this movement.
In april 2015 I had my debut as Ana Novic, launching my first official collection, “1”. It contained atypical night gowns with original cuts, sexy curves and the original element: manually paintings, a unique thing not only in my country or in Europe, but worldwide. It started from an idea I had and it paid it off. The collection was a success, and that made me and Veronica very happy. Veronica is my friend for more than 25 years, she is a painter and she did all the paintings. The Romanian press called our gowns “living paintings”, we did TV Shows, all the people were talking about them, even the international press. Looking back, I now realize it was a really big thing. I still get requests for manually painted dresses from my clients.

image1-3
7. I have a curiosity ! Does a designer wear mostly her creations or she also  wears other brands?

Personally, when I go to events I only wear my creations. What’s the point of being a fashion designer and making women clothing if I’m not the best endorser for them? 🙂 90% of the time I’m wearing Ana Novic, and when I’m not, I have my clients or the celebrities I’m working with and I’m wearing their designs on different occasions. When I simply go out and everything is more casual, I tend to combine vintage clothing with my own stuff.

fullsizerender

8. Tell us something about what gives you power, energy or motivates you every day.

The things that motivate me everyday are the power and the desire to become better, the certainty that I have the talent to make a difference, the feedback I get from all my clients, from the projects I work on and, of course, my friends and family. My amazing daughter and my husband, journalist and blogger DaddyCool.ro, who is my biggest supporter. He believes in me very much and he is always telling me I can do and achieve everything I want. And I also truly believe in him because he is such a great person and he has achieved amazing things so far!

fullsizerender-3

9. What are you currently working at? We know you are preparing to launch a new collection soon… Tell us more about it, of course, as much as you can share with us at the moment. We still like surprises!

In this very moment I am working on a special project that involves a celebrity. It’s a very cool one for OK Magazine Romania and I have designed a unique and original dress, never made before, which will make a huge impact, I am sure of that. The celebrity I am working with is very proud of me because I pushed my limits… again.

Besides that, I am working on my new collection, yes. It’s going to be an amazing event, an unusual one, of course, and I will tell you more about it next time, when I’ll also show you pics from the event and the full lookbook. Can’t wait!

10. Any piece of advice that you would like to give to the fashion lovers?

I would like to tell, not only to the fashion lovers, but to everyone to pursue their dreams and to never ever give up! Work hard and believe in yourselves and sooner or later you will get where you want to be and you will be proud that you didn’t give up, even if sometimes it was very hard. You are stronger than you think!

Thank you very much, Ana! You are a proof that impossible is nothing and here is the confirmation!

Style vs. Brands

Don’t let labels define you.

I have one simple question for you: do you like what you see?

Now, have  a look at this!

Do you still like it? Does it look differently to you, perhaps even better?

The idea behind this example is simple! Middle East is the place where people do care if you wear a label, an expensive brand, the latest collection or a limited edition product.
You might be addressed many times: “Oh, I love it! Which brand is it?”
I go like 😕 Does it necessary need to be branded? Am I not cool enough to speak to you if I don’t wear a designer label?
Don’t get me wrong please, we do love designers and we do buy pieces if we like, if we can afford and if it’s worth buying them. We would even recommend you to invest in bags, shoes, pieces that are good quality and will help you getting the look you have always dreamed of!

image3

Andra Contiu, dress by Ana Novic, hand-painted by Vera Holostencu

But from here to being left on the side in a society because you can’t afford buying some cool pieces it’s a big gap. We’ll never buy anything just because we have to wear brands to be accepted by the society.
Unfortunately, this is the ugly truth that surrenders us.

So what are we trying to do, to show or to prove?

This:

fullsizerender-4image2-1image4image3image3-1image1-1

Underneath your clothes.

We are trying to show, my dears, that style will never equal labels and that style doesn’t need a lot of money, but just imagination, creativity, desire, passion, love and courage. You need to be brave to go out there and prove them wrong!
Be yourself, be confident in who you are as a person, your values and show them you have the style and the class that money will never buy! Don’t be left on the side because you don’t have in your wardrobe the last collection of my favourite Chanel or Dolce & Gabbana. Yes, I love them, I do, but I will never use brands as an etiquette to define someone. We are more than that!
You are more than that!

We managed to make it to Vogue Arabia, Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, Emirates WomanAhlan!, fashion and style pages and so on. And all of that, only because we have attended this event by being who we are, wearing what we like and using all the resources we have had in order to make some unique pieces that will capture people’s attention. As you have already seen, we used accessible items, that we had in our wardrobe before and we did our best to customize every single item with minimum budget. Affordable, uhm?

There are lots of tricks to be used when you want to live in style, but about this we’ll talk in another post.
The most important advice is to be happy, to be happy with yourself and don’t be shy to express your personality through clothes. We love to hunt the stylish people, so watch out…:)

Love,

Fashion Forward Dubai

Fashion can move you forward

Time flies, we are all sure of that by now, therefore, we want to go back in time for a bit and remember together these three awesome days we had!
Fashion Forward is one of the biggest fashion event in the Middle East held bi-annually in April and October at Dubai Design District, which includes: Runway shows and presentations by the best couture, ready-to-wear and accessories designers in the Middle East. There are some very interesting talks and  inspiring seminars led by experts and fashion academia, which we totally love to attend.
This being said, I know you guys want to see pictures and emotions more than talks, so I won’t make the text too long this time, because fashion doesn’t need words to be expressed. But I would just like to add that it was the best Fashion Forward edition I have attended in 4 years in Dubai and still living the feeling of those days! 🙂

Day 1

The first day in a fashion show I think it’s spectacular, because everyone attending the event is trying to look the best! I have seen the best outfits in this day, people I have met were totally amazing, inspiring, approachable, friendly and the list could continue. This day gives you a burst of energy to keep your creativity up for the days that follow.

I simply love to see how people express their personality through clothes, style, fashion!
It’s the time of the year when you can go crazy and wear anything you wouldn’t wear on a daily basis!

Another long day full of shows and colorful street style, but nothing makes me happier!
As you might have already noticed, I focused more on sharing with you few shots of people like you, like me, randomly, but people who have captured my attention, actually not only mine, let’s be fair!
Second day it’s been a great success, considering the amount of compliments regarding my outfit, which was styled and customized by Rashwan with the help of the talented Ana Novic. Pictures, pictures, pictures!!!

Last day of Fashion Forward was still full of surprises. People want to stay memorable and  we have seen the ladies and the gentlemen having some major style credentials throughout the event! To be honest, I am very proud of how everyone excelled with their inspiring and unique wardrobe choices. It’s hard to say which once was my favourite, because fashion is a world where you are constantly in love. Have a look at the last day of this beautiful show!

I hope you have enjoyed the article and I think, by now,  you should have a picture of how Middle Eastern people understand fashion. We are not in NY, Milan or Paris, but we have definitely brought all of them here!
This event was an opportunity for all the talented people around to express themselves, to make new friends, to capture beautiful moments and to perhaps, open new doors for some of us!

Wishing you all a stylish weekend ahead and stay tuned for more news related to the event! 🙂

Kiss kiss,

Andra
